Lighting up history with Illuminate Downtown Guelph
Illuminate Downtown Guelph is a spectacular collection of outdoor lighting projects set to brighten up the core of our city. The Wellington Hotel, the Old Post Office, Old Quebec Street Shoppes and the Guelph Civic Museum are displaying colourful vignettes in an after dark experience like no other. Launched on July 1st and operating every night until Thanksgiving, this outdoor experience enables safe and accessible visits, and an opportunity for the community to connect with their city in a safe and captivating way.
Spearheaded by the Downtown Guelph Business Association (DGBA), the project has received funding from the Province of Ontario, the County of Wellington, Regional Tourism, Guelph Tourism, Guelph Museums, Barrel Works and Guelph City Realty. The DGBA worked with the lighting experts from Aligned Vision Group, part of the team that lit up the CN Tower, the Rainbow Bridge and many historical buildings Ontario-wide.
Featuring remarkably preserved 19th century stone facades, a stunning art deco frontage, and a modern landmark, illumination is the perfect solution to highlighting the exceptional architecture in Downtown Guelph. The four iconic buildings will be lit up from 9.30pm to 11pm in the summer months, and relaunch with vibrant festive colours in the winter season.
