Beyond the statement, "We humans are an odd bunch," it's hard to pin artist Ryan Price down on specifics about the influences and themes that permeate his work he prefers that his art speak for itself. As a printmaker and illustrator, having spent years developing his craft, Ryan brings to bear considerable skill and imagination in his meandering, intuitive, and always fascinating exploration of the eclectic oddities that make us what we are. Full of wit and dark humour - satirical perhaps, but ultimately a celebration - Ryan's works evoke powerful stories. Where one viewer finds the images darkly disturbing, the next feels only the undertones of warmth and fragility, while a third cannot quite stifle a laugh - and none is wrong. Guided by the firm belief that art is about playfulness and process, the underlying strength of Ryan's work is its authenticity - it is what it is.
